☞잠26:1 어리석은 자에게는 명예가 적합하지 아니하니, 마치 여름에 눈과 같고 추수 때에 비 같으니라.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
☞잠26:2 새가 떠돌아다니고 제비가 날아다님같이, 까닭없는 저주도 임하지 않으리라.
As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
☞잠26:3 말에게는 채찍이요, 나귀에게는 재갈이요, 어리석은 자의 등에는 매니라.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
☞잠26:4 어리석은 자에게 그의 미련함에 따라 대답하지 말라. 너도 그와 같을까 함이라.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
☞잠26:5 어리석은 자에게 그의 미련함에 따라 대답하라. 그가 스스로 현명하다고 생각할까 함이라.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
☞잠26:6 어리석은 자 편에 소식을 전하는 자는 발을 잘라 버리는 것이요, 손해를 마시는 것이니라.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
☞잠26:7 저는 자의 다리는 동일하지 않나니, 어리석은 자들의 입에 있는 비유담도 그러하니라.
The legs of the lame are not equal： so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
☞잠26:8 어리석은 자에게 명예를 주는 것은 돌을 물매에 매는 자와 같으니라.
As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
☞잠26:9 어리석은 자들의 입에 있는 비유담은 술취한 자의 손에 든 가시나무 같으니라.
As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools.
☞잠26:10 만물을 조성하신 위대하신 하나님은 어리석은 자에게도 보상하시고 범죄자들에게도 보상하시느니라.
The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
☞잠26:11 개가 자기의 토한 것으로 돌아감같이 어리석은 자도 자기의 미련함으로 돌아가느니라.
As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
☞잠26:12 네가 스스로 현명하다고 생각하는 사람을 보느냐? 그 사람보다는 어리석은 자에게 바랄 것이 더 많으니라.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
☞잠26:13 게으른 사람은 말하기를 "길에 사자가 있다. 길거리에 사자가 있다." 하느니라.
The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
☞잠26:14 문이 돌쩌귀 위에서 도는 것같이 게으른 자도 침상 위에서 뒹구느니라.
As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
☞잠26:15 게으른 사람은 자기 손을 품에 감추고 자기 입으로 다시 가져오기를 싫어하느니라.
The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
☞잠26:16 게으른 자는 이유를 댈 수 있는 일곱 사람 보다도 자신을 더 지혜롭게 여기느니라.
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
☞잠26:17 길을 지나다가 자기와 상관없는 다툼에 간섭하는 자는 개의 귀를 잡는 자와 같으니라.
He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
☞잠26:18 횃불과 화살과 죽음을 던지는 미친 사람과 같이
As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
☞잠26:19 자기 이웃을 속이며 말하기를 "내가 장난한 것이 아니냐?" 하는 사람도 그러하니라.
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
☞잠26:20 나무가 없는 곳에는 불이 꺼지듯이, 험담하는 자가 없는 곳에는 싸움도 그치느니라.
Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out： so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
☞잠26:21 타는 숯에 숯을 넣고 불에 나무를 넣는 것처럼, 다투기를 좋아하는 사람은 싸움을 일으키느니라.
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
☞잠26:22 험담하는 자의 말들은 상처와 같이 뱃속 깊은 데로 내려가느니라.
The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
☞잠26:23 불타는 입술과 악한 마음은 은 찌끼를 입힌 질그릇과 같으니라.
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
☞잠26:24 미워하는 자는 자기 입술로는 속이고 자기 안에 속임수를 쌓아 두나니,
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
☞잠26:25 그가 좋은 말을 할지라도 믿지 말 것은 그의 마음 속에 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있음이라.
When he speaketh fair, believe him not： for there are seven abominations in his heart.
☞잠26:26 그의 증오가 속임수로 감춰질지라도 그의 악함은 온 회중 앞에 드러나게 되리라.
Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
☞잠26:27 구덩이를 파는 자는 그 안에 빠질 것이며, 돌을 굴리는 자에게는 그것이 그의 위로 돌아가리라.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein： and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
☞잠26:28 거짓말하는 혀는 그것으로 고난당하는 자를 미워하고, 아첨하는 입은 패망케 하느니라.
A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
