☞잠25:1 이것들도 솔로몬의 잠언이요, 유다의 히스키야왕의 사람들이 베낀 것이라.
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
☞잠25:2 일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영광이나, 일을 찾아내는 것은 왕의 영예니라.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing： but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
☞잠25:3 하늘은 높고 땅은 깊으며, 왕들의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라.
The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
☞잠25:4 은에서 찌꺼기를 제거하라. 그리하면 세공자에게 그릇이 되어 나올 것이니라.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
☞잠25:5 왕 앞에서 악한 자를 제거하라. 그리하면 그의 보좌가 의 안에서 굳게 서리라.
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
☞잠25:6 왕 앞에 스스로 나타내지 말고 위대한 사람의 자리에 서지 말라.
Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men：
☞잠25:7 이는 네가 "이리 올라오라."는 말을 듣는 것이 네 눈이 본 통치자 앞에서 더 낮추어지는 것보다 나음이니라.
For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
☞잠25:8 다투려고 급히 나가지 말라. 이는 네 이웃이 너를 부끄럽게 할 때 네가 어찌할 줄 모를까 함이라.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
☞잠25:9 네 이웃과 다툴지라도 다른 사람의 비밀은 누설하지 말라.
Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another：
☞잠25:10 그것을 들은 자가 너를 부끄럽게 할까 함이요 너의 악명이 네게서 떠나지 않을까 함이라.
Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
☞잠25:11 적합하게 한 말은 은 그림들에 있는 금사과들 같으니라.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
☞잠25:12 순종하는 귀에 현명하게 책망하는 자는 금귀고리와 정금 장식물 같으니라.
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
☞잠25:13 신실한 사자는 그를 보낸 자들에게 마치 추수 때의 차가운 눈과 같아서 주인들의 혼을 시원하게 하느니라.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him： for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
☞잠25:14 거짓 은사를 스스로 자랑하는 자는 누구나 비 없는 구름과 바람 같으니라.
Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
☞잠25:15 오래 참음으로 통치자가 설득되나니, 부드러운 혀는 뼈를 꺾느니라.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
☞잠25:16 네가 꿀을 찾았느냐? 네게 충분할 만큼만 먹어 과식으로 토하지 않게 하라.
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
☞잠25:17 이웃집에 자주 다니지 말라. 그가 네게 싫증나서 미워할까 함이라.
Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
☞잠25:18 자기 이웃에 대하여 거짓 증거한 사람은 큰 망치요, 칼이며, 예리한 화살이니라.
A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
☞잠25:19 고난의 때에 신실하지 못한 사람을 신뢰하는 것은 마치 부러진 이와 탈골된 발 같으니라.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
☞잠25:20 마음이 우울한 사람에게 노래를 부르는 자는 추운 날에 옷을 빼앗아 가는 자와 같고 초석 위에 식초를 붓는 자와 같도다.
As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
☞잠25:21 네 원수가 굶주리거든 먹을 음식을 주고, 그가 목말라 하거든 마실 물을 주라.
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink：
☞잠25:22 이는 네가 그의 머리 위에 숯불을 쌓는 것이니, 주께서 네게 보상하시리라.
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
☞잠25:23 북풍이 비를 몰고옴과 같이 험담하는 혀는 성난 얼굴을 일으키느니라.
The north wind driveth away rain： so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
☞잠25:24 다투는 여자과 함께 넓은 집에서 사는 것보다 지붕의 한 모퉁이에서 사는 것이 더 나으니라.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
☞잠25:25 먼 땅에서 오는 좋은 소식은 목마른 혼에게 냉수 같으니라.
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
☞잠25:26 악인 앞에 굴복하는 의로운 사람은 불결한 샘과 오염된 샘물 같으니라.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
☞잠25:27 꿀을 많이 먹는 것이 좋지 않듯이 사람이 자신의 영광을 구하는 것도 영광스럽지 못하니라.
It is not good to eat much honey： so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
☞잠25:28 자기의 영을 다스리지 못하는 자는 무너져 버린 성읍에 성벽이 없는 것과 같으니라.
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
