☞잠23:1 치리자와 함께 음식을 먹으려고 앉아 있거든, 네 앞에 있는 자가 누구인지 잘 생각하라.
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee：
☞잠23:2 만일 네가 탐식하는 사람이거든 네 목에 칼을 두라.
And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
☞잠23:3 그의 진수성찬을 탐내지 말라. 그것들은 속이는 음식이니라.
Be not desirous of his dainties： for they are deceitful meat.
☞잠23:4 부자가 되려고 애쓰지 말며, 네 자신의 지혜를 그칠지니라.
Labour not to be rich： cease from thine own wisdom.
☞잠23:5 네 눈을 허무한 것에 주목하려느냐? 재물은 반드시 스스로 날개를 만들어 하늘을 향하여 독수리처럼 날아가리라.
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
☞잠23:6 악한 눈을 가진 자의 음식을 먹지 말며, 그의 진수성찬을 탐내지 말라.
Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats：
☞잠23:7 이는 그가 마음에 생각하는 대로 그도 그러한즉, 그가 네게 먹고 마시라고 할지라도 그의 마음은 너와 함께 있지 아니함이라.
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he： Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
☞잠23:8 네가 조금 먹은 것도 토하겠고 네 아름다운 말들도 잃어 버리리라.
The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
☞잠23:9 어리석은 자의 귀에 말하지 말라. 이는 그가 네 말의 지혜를 업신여길 것임이라.
Speak not in the ears of a fool： for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
☞잠23:10 옛 지계표를 옮기지 말며 아비 없는 자의 밭에 들어가지 말라.
Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless：
☞잠23:11 그들의 구속주는 막강하시니, 그가 너를 대적하여 그들을 변호하시리라.
For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
☞잠23:12 훈계를 네 마음에 두며, 지식의 말들에 네 귀를 기울이라.
Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
☞잠23:13 아이로부터 징계를 거두지 말라. 네가 그를 매질할지라도 그가 죽지 아니하리라.
Withhold not correction from the child： for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
☞잠23:14 너는 그를 매질해야 하리니, 그리하면 그의 혼을 지옥으로부터 구해 내리라.
Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
☞잠23:15 내 아들아, 만일 네 마음이 현명하면 내 마음, 곧 나도 즐거우리라.
My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
☞잠23:16 정녕, 네 입술이 바른 것들을 말하면 내 속마음이 즐거우리라.
Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
☞잠23:17 네 마음으로 죄인들을 부러워하지 말고 온종일 주의 두려움 가운데 있으라.
Let not thine heart envy sinners： but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
☞잠23:18 이는 분명히 마지막이 있겠고 또 네 기대가 끊어지지 아니할 것임이라.
For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
☞잠23:19 내 아들아, 너는 듣고 현명하게 되어 네 마음을 그 길로 인도하라.
Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
☞잠23:20 술을 많이 마시는 자와 고기를 탐식하는 자와 함께하지 말라.
Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh：
☞잠23:21 술취하는 자와 탐식하는 자는 가난하여질 것이요, 잠자기를 좋아하는 자는 낡은 옷을 입을 것임이라.
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty： and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
☞잠23:22 너를 낳은 네 아버지에게 귀를 기울이고, 네 어머니가 늙어도 경히 여기지 말라.
Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
☞잠23:23 진리를 사고, 그것을 팔지 말라. 지혜와 훈계와 명철도 그리하라.
Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
☞잠23:24 의로운 자의 아버지는 크게 즐거워할 것이요, 현명한 아이를 낳는 자도 그로 인하여 기뻐하리라.
The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice： and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
☞잠23:25 네 아버지와 네 어머니가 기뻐할 것이요, 너를 낳은 여인이 즐거워하리라.
Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
☞잠23:26 내 아들아, 네 마음을 내게 주며 네 눈을 나의 길들에 주목하라.
My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
☞잠23:27 음녀는 깊은 함정이요, 타국 여인은 좁은 구덩이라.
For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
☞잠23:28 그녀는 또한 먹이를 찾듯이 숨어 기다리며 사람들 가운데 범죄자들을 늘리느니라.
She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
☞잠23:29 화가 누구에게 있느냐? 슬픔이 누구에게 있느냐? 다툼이 누구에게 있느냐? 불평이 누구에게 있느냐? 까닭없는 상처가 누구에게 있느냐? 충혈된 눈이 누구에게 있느냐?
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
☞잠23:30 술에 빠진 자들에게 있으며, 혼합된 술을 찾아 다니는 자들에게라.
They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
☞잠23:31 술은 붉고 잔에서 빛을 내며 매끄럽게 내려가나니, 너는 술을 쳐다보지도 말라.
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
☞잠23:32 그것은 마침내 뱀처럼 물며, 살모사처럼 쏘리라.
At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
☞잠23:33 네 눈이 타국 여인을 볼 것이요, 네 마음이 패역한 것들을 발설하리라.
Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
☞잠23:34 정녕, 네가 바다 한가운데 누운 자 같을 것이요, 돛대 꼭대기에 누운 자 같으리라.
Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
☞잠23:35 네가 말하기를 "사람들이 나를 쳤어도 나는 아프지 아니하였고, 그들이 나를 때렸어도 나는 감각이 없었도다. 내가 언제 깨어날까? 내가 그것을 다시 찾으리라." 하리로다.
They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not： when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
