| ☞잠17:1 | 마른 떡 한 조각을 가지고 화목하는 것이 희생제물이 가득한 집에서 다투는 것보다 나으니라. Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife. | |||
| ☞잠17:2 | 현명한 종은 수치를 일으키는 아들을 다스릴 것이며 형제들 중에서 유업을 나눠 받으리라. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren. | |||
| ☞잠17:3 | 도가니는 은을, 용광로는 금을 연단하거니와 주께서는 사람의 마음을 연단하시느니라. The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold： but the LORD trieth the hearts. | |||
| ☞잠17:4 | 행악자는 거짓 입술을 유념하고, 거짓말하는 자는 사악한 혀에 귀를 기울이느니라. A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue. | |||
| ☞잠17:5 | 가난한 자를 조롱하는 자는 누구라도 그를 지으신 분을 비방하는 자라. 사람의 재앙을 기뻐하는 자는 형벌을 면치 못하리라. Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker： and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. | |||
| ☞잠17:6 | 손자들은 노인의 면류관이요, 자식들의 영광은 그들의 아버지니라. Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. | |||
| ☞잠17:7 | 훌륭한 말은 어리석은 자에게 어울리지 아니하며, 거짓말하는 입술은 통치자에게 더욱 그러하니라. Excellent speech becometh not a fool： much less do lying lips a prince. | |||
| ☞잠17:8 | 선물은 그것을 가진 자의 눈에 보석 같아서 그것이 어디로 향하든지 형통케 하느니라. A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it： whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. | |||
| ☞잠17:9 | 허물을 덮어 주는 자는 사랑을 구하나, 일을 거듭해서 말하는 자는 친한 벗들을 갈라 놓느니라. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. | |||
| ☞잠17:10 | 현명한 사람을 한 번 책망하는 것이 어리석은 자를 백 번 때리는 것보다 더 깊이 박히느니라. A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool. | |||
| ☞잠17:11 | 악한 사람은 반역만을 찾나니, 그러므로 잔인한 사자가 그를 대적하여 보내지리라. An evil man seeketh only rebellion： therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him. | |||
| ☞잠17:12 | 미련한 짓을 행하는 어리석은 자를 만나느니 차라리 새끼 빼앗긴 암콤을 만날지니라. Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly. | |||
| ☞잠17:13 | 선을 악으로 갚는 자마다 악이 그의 집에서 떠나지 아니하리라. Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. | |||
| ☞잠17:14 | 다툼의 시작은 물을 새게 하는 것과 같으니, 싸움이 일어나기 전에 시비를 멈추라. The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water： therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with. | |||
| ☞잠17:15 | 악인을 정당화시키는 자와 의인을 저주하는 자들은 둘 다 주께 가증하니라. He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. | |||
| ☞잠17:16 | 어리석은 자는 지혜에 마음이 없거늘 그가 손에 값을 가지고 지혜를 사려 함은 어찜인가? Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? | |||
| ☞잠17:17 | 친구는 언제나 사랑해 주고, 형제는 역경을 위하여 태어났느니라. A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. | |||
| ☞잠17:18 | 명철이 없는 자는 손뼉을 치며 그의 친구의 면전에서 보증을 서느니라. A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend. | |||
| ☞잠17:19 | 다툼을 사랑하는 자는 죄과를 사랑하는 자요, 자기 문전을 높이는 자는 파멸을 찾는 자니라. He loveth transgression that loveth strife： and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. | |||
| ☞잠17:20 | 비뚤어진 마음을 가진 자는 좋은 것을 얻지 못하며, 패역한 혀를 가진 자는 재앙에 빠지느니라. He that hath a froward heart findeth no good： and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief. | |||
| ☞잠17:21 | 어리석은 자를 낳는 자는 그로 인하여 슬픔을 당하고, 어리석은 자의 아비는 기쁨이 없느니라. He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow： and the father of a fool hath no joy. | |||
| ☞잠17:22 | 즐거운 마음은 약과 같이 좋으나, 상한 영은 뼈를 마르게 하느니라. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine： but a broken spirit drieth the bones. | |||
| ☞잠17:23 | 악한 사람은 사람의 품에서 나온 뇌물을 받고 재판의 길을 굽게 하느니라. A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment. | |||
| ☞잠17:24 | 지혜는 명철을 지닌 자의 앞에 있으나, 어리석은 자의 눈은 땅 끝에 있느니라. Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth. | |||
| ☞잠17:25 | 어리석은 아들은 그의 아비에게 슬픔이 되고 그를 낳은 어미에게 고통이 되느니라. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him. | |||
| ☞잠17:26 | 의인을 벌하는 것과, 공평함을 인하여 통치자들을 때리는 것은 선하지 아니하니라. Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity. | |||
| ☞잠17:27 | 지식이 있는 자는 말을 삼가며, 명철한 사람은 뛰어난 영을 가졌느니라. He that hath knowledge spareth his words： and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. | |||
| ☞잠17:28 | 어리석은 자일지라도 잠잠히 있으면 현명하게 여겨지고, 입술을 닫고 있는 자는 명철한 사람으로 여겨지느니라. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise： and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. | |||
