| ☞전1:1 | 예루살렘에 있는 왕, 다윗의 아들 전도자의 말씀이라. The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. | |||
| ☞전1:2 | 전도자가 말하노라. 헛되고 헛되며 헛되고 헛되니 모든 것이 헛되도다. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. | |||
| ☞전1:3 | 사람이 해 아래서 하는 모든 수고에서 무슨 유익을 갖겠는가? What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? | |||
| ☞전1:4 | 한 세대가 지나가고 또 다른 세대가 오나 땅은 영원히 남아 있으며 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh： but the earth abideth for ever. | |||
| ☞전1:5 | 또한 해도 뜨고 지며 그 떴던 자리로 급히 돌아가는도다. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. | |||
| ☞전1:6 | 바람은 남으로 불다가 북으로 돌이키며, 계속해서 돌며 불다가 그 순환을 따라 다시 돌아가는도다. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. | |||
| ☞전1:7 | 모든 강물은 바다로 흘러가나 바다는 여전히 채워지지 않으며, 강물들은 발원한 곳으로 다시 돌아가는도다. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. | |||
| ☞전1:8 | 만물은 수고로 가득 찼으나 사람이 그것을 표현할 수 없으니, 눈은 보는 것으로 만족하지 못하며 귀는 듣는 것으로 채워지지 않는도다. All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it： the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. | |||
| ☞전1:9 | 이미 있었던 것이 앞으로 있을 것이며 이미 된 것이 앞으로도 될 것이니, 해 아래 새 것이 없도다. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done： and there is no new thing under the sun. | |||
| ☞전1:10 | 어떤 것을 가리켜 "보라, 새 것이라!"고 할 만한 것이 있느냐? 그것은 우리 앞에 있었던 옛 시대에 있었던 것이라. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. | |||
| ☞전1:11 | 이전 것들을 기억함이 없으니 장래 일들도 후에 올 사람들에게 아무것도 기억되지 않으리라. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after. | |||
| ☞전1:12 | 나 전도자는 예루살렘에서 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕이었노라. I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. | |||
| ☞전1:13 | 내가 하늘 아래서 행해지는 모든 일들에 관하여 내 마음을 다하여 지혜로 찾고 탐구하였는데, 이 심한 노고는 하나님께서 사람의 아들들에게 주사 더불어 수고하게 하신 것이라. And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven： this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. | |||
| ☞전1:14 | 내가 해 아래서 행해지는 모든 일들을 보았는데, 보라, 모든 것이 헛되며 영의 고통이라. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. | |||
| ☞전1:15 | 구부러진 것을 반듯하게 할 수 없고 부족한 것은 셀 수도 없도다. That which is crooked cannot be made straight： and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. | |||
| ☞전1:16 | 내가 내 마음에 숙고하여 말하기를 "보라, 내가 위대하게 되어 나보다 먼저 예루살렘에 있었던 모든 자들보다 더 많은 지혜를 얻었노라." 하였나니, 정녕, 내 마음이 지혜와 지식의 큰 경험을 하였도다. I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem： yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. | |||
| ☞전1:17 | 내가 지혜를 알고 미친 것과 어리석은 것을 알기 위하여 내 마음을 썼으나, 이것 역시 영의 고통임을 알았도다. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly： I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. | |||
| ☞전1:18 | 지혜가 많으면 슬픔도 많으니, 지식을 늘리는 사람은 슬픔을 늘리는 것이라. For in much wisdom is much grief： and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. | |||
