| ☞전10:1 | 죽은 파리들이 약제사의 향기름에서 악취를 내뿜는 것같이 조그마한 우매도 지혜와 존귀로 평판이 있는 사람에게 마찬가지니라. Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour： so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. | |||
| ☞전10:2 | 현명한 사람의 마음은 그의 오른편에 있으나 어리석은 자의 마음은 그의 왼편에 있느니라. A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left. | |||
| ☞전10:3 | 또한 어리석은 자가 길을 걸을 때 지혜가 부족하여 모든 이에게 자기는 어리석은 자라고 말하느니라. Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool. | |||
| ☞전10:4 | 치리자의 영이 너를 대항하여 일어나면 너는 네 자리를 떠나지 말라. 이는 굴복함이 큰 화를 진정시킴이라. If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences. | |||
| ☞전10:5 | 내가 해 아래서 본 한 가지 악이 있는데 치리자에게서 나오는 오류와 같으니 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler： | |||
| ☞전10:6 | 미련한 자가 높은 지위에 있고 부자가 낮은 자리에 앉은 것이라. Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. | |||
| ☞전10:7 | 내가 보았는데 종들은 말을 타고 통치자들은 종들처럼 땅 위를 걷는도다. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth. | |||
| ☞전10:8 | 구덩이를 파는 자는 거기에 빠질 것이요, 담을 허는 자는 뱀에게 물리리라. He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him. | |||
| ☞전10:9 | 돌들을 치우는 자는 그것으로 다칠 것이요, 나무를 쪼개는 자는 그로 인하여 위험을 당하리라. Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. | |||
| ☞전10:10 | 쇠가 무딘데도 날을 갈지 않으면 그는 더 힘을 써야만 하나, 지혜는 지도하기에 유익하니라. If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength： but wisdom is profitable to direct. | |||
| ☞전10:11 | 실로 마법이 없으면 뱀은 물 것이요, 그러면 술객은 유익이 없느니라. Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. | |||
| ☞전10:12 | 현명한 사람의 입의 말들은 은혜로우나 어리석은 자의 입술은 자신을 삼키나니 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. | |||
| ☞전10:13 | 그의 입의 말들의 시작은 어리석음이요 그의 이야기의 끝은 사악한 광기니라. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness： and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. | |||
| ☞전10:14 | 어리석은 자는 또한 말이 많으니, 사람이 장차 무슨 일이 있을지 말할 수 없도다. 이 후에 자기에게 무슨 일이 있을지 누가 말해 줄 수 있으리요? A fool also is full of words： a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him? | |||
| ☞전10:15 | 어리석은 자의 수고는 그들 모두를 피곤하게 하나니, 이는 그가 성읍으로 가는 길도 모름이라. The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city. | |||
| ☞전10:16 | 오 네 왕이 어린 아이며 네 고관들이 아침에 먹는 나라여, 네게 화가 있도다. Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! | |||
| ☞전10:17 | 오 네 왕이 귀족의 아들이요 네 고관들이 술취하기 위해서가 아니라 원기를 얻기 위해 때 맞춰 먹는 나라여, 네게 복이 있도다. Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! | |||
| ☞전10:18 | 심한 게으름으로 건물이 썩고, 손이 한가함으로 집이 내려앉는도다. By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through. | |||
| ☞전10:19 | 잔치는 웃음을 위하여 있고 포도주는 즐겁게 해 주나, 돈은 모든 것을 해결하느니라. A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry： but money answereth all things. | |||
| ☞전10:20 | 네 생각으로라도 왕을 저주하지 말고 네 침실에서나마 부자를 저주하지 말라. 이는 공중의 새가 그 음성을 전하고 날짐승이 그 일을 퍼뜨릴 것임이라. Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber： for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. | |||
